Detroit Pistons Owner, Tom Gores, Sends Bus (& More) to Help FlintNOW!

On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, I shared with our Bible Study group my desire to take the church and community residents to a future Detroit Pistons game. We’re blessed to receive courtesy tickets periodically from the Detroit Pistons / Palace Foundation, but in my heart I desired to do more to help families. I desired to cover bus transportation and food, too, but our budget didn’t agree. Therefore, I asked the group if people could afford up to $10 per person, which they felt was more than reasonable. Then God moved…the next day!

On Wednesday, February 3rd, I received a call from the Detroit Pistons that its owner, Tom Gores, wanted to bring encouragement to our ministry, which serve many Flint and local residents. Mr. Gores treated the entire event: offering us free luxury bus transportation, complimentary tickets, and food vouchers. All we had to do was get on the bus and enjoy the Wednesday night (Feb. 10th) game, which was extra special considering that night the Pistons retired Chauncey Billups’ (aka “Mr. Big Shot”) #1 jersey. Many Detroit Pistons greats were there (including: Isiah Thomas, Rick Mahorn, Rip Hamilton, Lindsey Hunter, Tayshaun Prince, Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Dave Bing, and many more!) making the night even more memorable. The Detroit Pistons even gave 50 “FlintNOW” T-shirts to everyone traveling with Dedicated Believers Ministries.
